Estimated 2026-27 season, based on last season.

In brief

Hakusan Ichirino Onsen (白山一里野温泉スキー場) is the ski area near Kanazawa with an onsen village at its foot: 20 km of slopes, 40% easy and 40% intermediate, an adult day ticket of ¥5,000, and night skiing until 21:00. The base is Kanazawa, 2h 26m from Tokyo on the Shinkansen, then a bus or about 1 hour by car. Opening dates for 2026-27 are posted in late autumn.

Why Ichirino

Ichirino is not a powder hill for experts. It is a moderate, friendly mountain with a wide, gentle main slope beside the centre house, a Kids Park, and a small village of inns where you can walk to the lift in boots. It is run, together with its smaller neighbour Hakusan Seymour (白山セイモアスキー場), by SAM Hakusan, an Ishikawa operator.

I stayed at Ichirino Kōgen Hotel Roan, right by the slope, and liked how quaint and fun the little ski village is. The hotel was full of Taiwanese and Chinese-speaking families, the slopes were moderate and kind to beginners, and after the lifts closed there was a hot bath and dinner a few steps away. If your group mixes beginners, children and a couple of stronger skiers, it is an easy place to like. Below: how to get there by bus or car, every lift ticket price, the mountain, Seymour, and where to stay.

By train and bus, or by car

Both start at Kanazawa, the end of the Hokuriku Shinkansen.

By train and bus

Tokyo to Kanazawa · 2h 26m

Hokuriku Shinkansen to Kanazawa: Tokyo 2h 26m. There is no Shinkansen station near the hill, so the last leg is a bus.

Hokutetsu ski bus, Kanazawa Station to Ichirino. One way ¥1,330 for adults and ¥670 for children (Seymour ¥1,100 and ¥560). Last season it ran on weekends and holidays only, and the 2026-27 dates are still to be posted. Coupons that bundle the bus with a lift ticket are sold at the Hokutetsu Ticket Center at the Kanazawa Station West Exit: round trip plus a 1-day lift ticket was ¥6,500 for adults at Ichirino, and the beginner package (¥5,000) included a 50% rental voucher. Kids and beginner coupons cannot be bought on the bus.

Whitering shuttle from Komatsu Airport or Komatsu Station. ¥2,000 one way, paid to the driver in cash. It runs only if booked 5 days ahead, and not on 1 to 3 January. Last season it left Komatsu Airport at 9:15 and Komatsu Station at 9:35, arriving at 10:35, with returns at 11:00 and 16:00.

Passes: the Hokuriku Arch Pass (¥35,000, 7 days) and the JR Pass cover the Shinkansen to Kanazawa. The Hokutetsu and Whitering buses are private and are not covered by any pass.

車

By car

Kanazawa · about 1 hour

Collect the car at Kanazawa Station or Komatsu Airport. From Kanazawa Station it is about 45 km, roughly 1 hour in winter. The operator gives about 50 minutes from Komatsu IC via Route 360 and about 60 minutes from Hakusan IC via Route 157. Seymour is a little closer: about 40 and 45 minutes.

Winter tyres are needed on Routes 157 and 360. Hire cars in Kanazawa and Komatsu come with them in winter, but ask for winter tyres when you book. Parking is free: 1,200 spaces at Ichirino and 1,100 at Seymour.

Not from Shirakawa-go: Route 157 beyond Shiramine, the White Road, is closed in winter, so you cannot drive over from the other side. Licence rules are in our car-hire notes.

This is the 2026-27 list; the operator can change prices in season, so check on the day. Seniors aged 60 and over pay ¥4,500 for a day ticket. On days when night skiing runs, a day ticket also covers the night session. The Kids Park costs ¥1,000 (everyone aged 2 and over needs an entry ticket; the equipment inside is free), and some family and beginner tickets include it. Lift hours are 8:30 to 17:00 on weekdays and 8:00 to 17:00 at weekends and holidays.

The Hokutetsu bus coupons from Kanazawa bundle the bus and a lift ticket (see Getting there), which is the simplest way to buy a ticket without a car.

A moderate hill: easy and intermediate runs make up four fifths of it.

Moderate slopes above an onsen village白山一里野温泉スキー場

Base 550 m · top 1,050 m · 6 lifts

Ichirino has 20 km of slopes over 500 m of vertical, split about 8 km easy (40%), 8 km intermediate (40%) and 4 km difficult (20%). The wide, gentle main slope beside the centre house is where beginners and children start; the upper runs give confident intermediates enough to do for a day or two.

The onsen village sits at the foot of the lifts, so the walk from bed to slope is short.

Hakusan Seymour白山セイモアスキー場

Kanazawa Station by Hokutetsu bus ¥1,100 · Komatsu IC about 40 min · Hakusan IC about 45 min

Seymour (白山セイモアスキー場) has a central middle-grade slope for beginners and intermediates, a variation course for faster skiers, a family slope, and kids ski and snowboard schools. There is no sledding. Lifts run from 8:30 to 17:00 and parking is free (1,100 spaces).

Season: usually late December to mid-March, depending on snow; 2026-27 is estimated from that. It is on the same Hokutetsu bus line as Ichirino, with a round trip plus a 1-day lift ticket at ¥6,200 last season. If you want the onsen village, the wider runs and night skiing, stay at Ichirino; if you want the shortest drive from Kanazawa, Seymour is the one. Read the Hakusan Seymour guide.

Where to stay

Hotels at Ichirino and in Kanazawa

Eleven stays: four at the foot of the slope, six in Kanazawa for the bus and one ryokan night. Check rates shows tonight's price for your dates.

How to choose: Ichirino has only a handful of stays that can be booked online, so I lead with Roan, where I stayed and the one with the most guest reviews. Sleeping at the foot of the lifts is the point of the place: first chair, a bath, dinner at the inn. If you would rather keep a city base, sleep in Kanazawa and take the Hokutetsu bus, or drive.

Eat and après

After the lifts

At Ichirino the meal is dinner at the inn. Ask when you book what the kitchen cooks.

  1. 01
Inn dinners. Village inns cook mountain vegetables (山菜), salt-grilled iwana river trout (岩魚) and, at some, bear hotpot (熊鍋), the food of the Hakusan foothills.
  2. 02
The onsen. Ichirino is an onsen village, and most stays have a hot-spring bath for after the slope.
  3. 03
Shiramine, 25 km away. A deep-snow village (2 to 4 m) with daikon-oroshi udon, tochi mochi and a public bath, the Sōyu. See the Shiramine and Hakusan guide.
  4. 04
Kanazawa on the way. Ōmichō Market for seafood bowls, and snow crab from early November, before the bus or after you hand the car back.
FAQ

Ichirino questions, answered

How much is a Hakusan Ichirino lift ticket in 2026-27?

An adult day ticket is ¥5,000 (seniors 60 and over ¥4,500, children from age 4 to primary school ¥4,000). A half day is ¥4,000, two days ¥9,500, and a night ticket ¥3,000. On days when night skiing runs, a day ticket also covers the night session. Prices can change in season, so check on the day.

When does Hakusan Ichirino open for 2026-27?

The 2026-27 dates are estimated from last season: the season usually runs from mid-December to late March, and the operator, SAM Hakusan, confirms them in late autumn. Seymour, the smaller hill nearby, usually opens in late December and closes in mid-March, depending on snow.

Is Ichirino good for beginners and children?

Yes. About 40% of the 20 km of slopes is easy and 40% intermediate, with a wide, gentle main slope beside the centre house. There is a Kids Park (¥1,000 entry for ages 2 and over, equipment inside is free), a kids ski and snowboard school from age 4, and family lift tickets from ¥7,000 for one adult and one child. Beginner tickets are ¥2,000 on weekdays and ¥2,500 at weekends.

Is Ichirino a good choice for Chinese-speaking families?

When I stayed at Ichirino Kōgen Hotel Roan, right by the slope. It was full of Taiwanese and Chinese-speaking families. The village is small and relaxed, the slopes are moderate and suit beginners, and the hotel is a short walk from the lifts, so it works for a first ski trip with children.

Can I ski at night at Ichirino?

Yes. Night skiing runs from 16:50 to 21:00 and costs ¥3,000 for adults and ¥2,500 for children, or nothing extra if you hold a day ticket on a night day. The operator posts which nights run once the season starts.

Can I get to Ichirino without a car?

Yes, with a bus. From Kanazawa Station the Hokutetsu ski bus runs on weekends and holidays in season (¥1,330 one way last season; 2026-27 dates to be posted), with coupons sold at the Hokutetsu Ticket Center at the West Exit. From Komatsu Airport or Komatsu Station the Whitering shuttle costs ¥2,000 one way and must be booked 5 days ahead. The buses are not covered by rail passes, but the Shinkansen to Kanazawa is.

How far is Ichirino from Kanazawa?

About 45 km, or roughly 1 hour by car in winter conditions. The operator gives about 50 minutes from Komatsu IC via Route 360 and about 60 minutes from Hakusan IC via Route 157. Parking is free (1,200 spaces), and you need winter tyres. Route 157 beyond Shiramine, the White Road, is closed in winter, so you cannot drive over from Shirakawa-go.
